About Us

A platform for Suffolk's local radio future

Suffolk SSDAB East CIC is a Community Interest Company created to develop and operate small-scale DAB multiplex services in Suffolk, subject to Ofcom licensing.

Our Mission

Reliable, accessible and cost-effective digital radio

Our aim is to provide a reliable, accessible and cost-effective digital radio platform for local broadcasters, community organisations, specialist formats and new entrants.

Small-scale DAB is a UK government and Ofcom-backed initiative to open up digital radio to a wider range of broadcasters. It uses lower-power transmitters to serve specific geographic areas, making it far more affordable than traditional national or regional DAB.

What we stand for

Not-for-profit

Suffolk SSDAB East CIC is a Community Interest Company with no shareholders. Any surplus is reinvested into the service.

Community focused

We exist to serve Suffolk's broadcasting community — from established stations to new voices entering digital radio for the first time.

Ofcom licensed

Our multiplex services are subject to Ofcom licensing, ensuring a regulated, reliable and accountable platform for all carried broadcasters.

Affordable access

Small-scale DAB is designed to be cost-effective. We are committed to keeping carriage fees accessible for community and non-profit broadcasters.

Regulatory Context

Subject to Ofcom licensing

Small-scale DAB multiplexes in the UK are licensed by Ofcom, the communications regulator. Suffolk SSDAB East CIC is pursuing a licence to operate a small-scale DAB multiplex covering Suffolk.

The licensing process involves demonstrating local demand, technical planning and meeting Ofcom's requirements for multiplex operators. Registering interest from broadcasters is an important part of building that case.
